Du Jard Pedestrian Bridge
Saint-Dizier, France
The footbridge had to link the new growth area of Saint-Dizier with the old town while also connecting it to the park on the other side of the river, these three zones being at different levels.
We wanted the structure to be seen as a landmark for the new urban expansion, and also as a backdrop for the park.
The scheme can be explained as two curving paths that touch one another tangentially under the structural masts, forming a plaza with a balcony overlooking the city’s new area. A path leads down to the level of the park, the other one connects with the high part of Saint-Dizier’s old section.
The bridge expresses itself through its structure, but above all it is an experience when traversed from old Saint-Dizier and acting as a gate to the new city.
It not only solves problems, but offers us experiences as well.
