Santiago Bernabéu Waterfront
Santa Pola (Alicante), Spain
We wanted to design a waterfront that encompasses other activities aside from simply walking. To achieve this we gave the promenade the character of a garden with trees of different species, as well as a rich variety of flowers, to which we must add the palm trees that were already there.
We changed the maritime boundary, turning the straight line of the current promenade into a sinuous one at whose inflection points we place the accesses to the beach. The design of these accesses is carried out in different levels, which allows alternating wood decks, plants, and benches on which to sit or lie down by the sea.
This change of boundary, from straight line to sinuous line, has balanced the relationship between beach area and promenade, turning the intervention into a large park that includes hard pavement, sand, and green areas.
