Carme Pinós becomes the first woman to receive the Richard J. Neutra Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Richard J. Neutra Award commemorates the contributions of American architect Richard Neutra to architectural practice, particularly in areas such as research and design. Organized by Neutra’s family, the event aims to honor individuals who have dedicated their careers to the creation and advancement of new environments for work, living, and recreation.
On November 14, 2016, Catalan architect Carme Pinós made history as the first female recipient of the Richard J. Neutra Award. She joined a distinguished list of professionals and influential leaders, including former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Pritzker Architecture Prize winners Renzo Piano, Thom Mayne, and Tadao Ando, as well as SCI-Arc founding member Michael Rotondi. The award has been presented since 1980, honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to research and design in the field of architecture.
Subsequently, the California Polytechnic State University Department of Architecture and College of Environmental Design celebrated Carme Pinós’ recent award with a ceremony at the Cal Poly Pomona Theater. The event included a book signing, a lecture by Pinós, and a banquet in her honor, recognizing her outstanding career in architecture.
