The 33rd issue of the magazine En Blanco focuses on funerary architecture through nine architectural examples, including the Igualada Crematorium in Barcelona.
In the editorial’s words:
“Beyond the physical and spatial dimensions, funerary architecture delves into the depths of the emotional, the spiritual, the ceremonies, and the symbolism surrounding death. These intertwined elements turn these spaces into places charged with meaning and reflection, where architecture transcends its practical function to become a space of introspection and existential connection to the cycle of life and death.”
The main idea of the crematorium has been to delicately comprehend the situation inherent in the program. It aims to connect with nature and facilitate a dialogue between visitors and the distant landscape that can be glimpsed from the windows-a dialogue between life and death.
