Can Llaurador Library and Park
Teià (Barcelona), Spain
We wanted the new library, the surrounding territory and the existing country house – of scarce architectural significance but with symbolic value for the town –, to form an indivisible unit.
The decision to include the country house in the project marked the rhythm of the roofs that define the library. The new building will be a viewing deck towards the sports activities park that extends at its base throughout the whole plot.
The building is fragmented into different volumes, following the scale of the old country house, to engage in dialogue with it and, at the same time, let this interplay create more private outdoor spaces for users.
The roof and fragmentation are the tools we use to form a unit with the old house.
