Joint Research Center (JRC)
Seville, Spain
Based on the idea that creating architecture is synonymous with creating a city, we advocate for extending the public space already generated by the existing shopping center. We believe it is crucial to provide this area with enticing public spaces that energize civic activity in the Cartuja area, which, since the Universal Exposition, has yet to fully integrate into the urban fabric of Seville.
The proposal does not aim to merge with the singularity of the buildings in the area as a compact mass, but rather as an element with its own character. From a distance, it will be perceived as an inclined plane seeking to be illuminated by the sun to power the photovoltaic panels covering the entire roof. However, this strong presence becomes permeable as we approach.
We resolve the program in a triangular form, freeing up a large part of the plot for public space and orienting ourselves towards the river views, which will be enjoyed from the terraces located on the roof.
