King’s College University Building
London, United Kingdom
The proposal brings out the void between the two historical buildings of King’s College, making them interact with each other and giving them a friendlier and nobler presence. In fact, these historic and emblematic buildings are a constant presence in the intervention, becoming the landscape that is observed from anywhere: interior spaces and open areas alike.
We take the new building to be a hub of exchange, dialogue, and encounters; a generator of relationships. The location of King’s College and the Quadrangle’s being both a transition spot and a garden make us think of a garden-square – in continuity with other existing green zones.
The entrances, permeability, and an easy access from the Strand and from the Thames are therefore objectives the project must necessarily pursue.
