Morella Home-School
Morella (Castellón), Spain
Work with all the senses, not just with sight… Discover through all of them what Morella is…
Feel the need to protect ourselves from the empty landscape, full of longing for a more active time… Look for the best orientation, as the town does… Follow the rhythm of the mountain, fragmented by a thousand walls, all of them replete with lights and shadows.
It is a project made in the outdoors, on the site, responding to the vibrations it produces in the body. We spent many hours observing the place where we had to build, facing the landscape, facing the castle… Becoming familiar with the paths that delimit the territory.
This was the first impulse, marking our space with a path, which was also a building, and that sheltered an air that would be ours, different from the air breathed in the empty landscape.
The project is these intermediate spaces in front of the landscape sheltered by the building.
Those spaces that, being outside the building, are in the building just like when you are inside it, you are suspended in the landscape. The gaze never comes against an opacity, it escapes in all directions, while light enters. We never find ourselves in front of walls, not even in the classrooms. Light enters from the front, from the sides, from behind through skylights… Just like when we are in the outdoors: light surrounds us.
