The Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC) has honored Catalan architect Carme Pinós with the 2023 Prat de la Riba Award for her professional career. The award ceremony took place this Friday in the Prat de la Riba Hall of the Casa de Convalescència, the Barcelona headquarters of the institution.
The 2023 edition of this competition, annually awarded by the IEC for Sant Jordi, has seen over 60 winners. The president of the Institute, Teresa Cabré, presided over the award ceremony, accompanied by the Minister of Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal, and other members of the institution’s government team.
In a statement, the IEC has asserted that Pinós is deserving of this award “for her outstanding professional career, evident in architectural projects worldwide, for her connection to the Catalan territory, and the critical nature of her proposals, which reject mere sensationalism in architecture“.
On the other hand, the resilience of the architect “in the course of her professional practice as a woman” has also been emphasized.
